Ralph was a natural born leader and brought this to his work as an architect. He always struggled to balance work and life and this may have held him back somewhat, but it was a compromise he was willing to make. He nonetheless accomplished much in his professional life including his various architectural projects, starting up the sports facilities department at Sasaki Associates and 2 published books, Pole-Building Construction and Home Energy for the 80s. He was an early advocate of alternative energy reflected in these books as well as other published articles and presentations he gave. He was also working on a book on Sports Facilities design when he died. His favorite architectural project was probably the Gosman Center, sports facility at Brandeis University where the Boston Celtics practiced from 1991 to 1999. This project came in on time and under budget with happy clients---something that seems to be a rarity in the world of architecture. I took the picture below at the Brandeis facility when visiting with Jack. It is a memorial to Ralph and his work on the project hanging in the entrance to the building.
